What is Bitcoin Gold?
Bitcoin Gold is another hard fork for Bitcoin blockchain. It should not be confused with BitGold; it is not related to the yellow metal, the payment firm or the gold investment in any way.
It is not also related to BCash that occurred on August 1st, 2017 and upcoming SegWit2x hard fork scheduled for mid-November 2018.
How it works
This coin is identical to “vanilla” Bitcoin but uses the alternative P-o-W algorithm called Equihash. Some supported feel it is a bit sped up with custom hardware.
Equihash works in a sense that the memory constraints the algorithm more than the computing power does.
The spets are next:
- Equihash starts with a list of pseudorandom bit strings. They are derived from the block the miner wants to add.
- The miner attempts to find the subset of bit string.
- The strings are chosen above is concatenated together and hashed.

Bitcoin gold’s stated idea is to make bitcoin decentralized again. This is quite conflicting taking into account that bitcoin is already decentralized and is not controlled by any central bank.
However, this development was not based on central issuance. It was somewhat more to do with the mining process. Developers believed that adopting new mining process; proof-of-work algorithm would make the new cryptocurrency the most popular on the market.
